About
UPIFees.com is an independent calculator for UPI merchant charges under the MDR framework effective 15 October 2026.
Why this exists
When the MDR framework was announced in September 2026, most of what circulated about it was wrong in the same way: it described a merchant-side charge as a fee on ordinary UPI users. The official FAQ that settles the question is a 42-question PDF, which is not where anyone wants to look up what a ₹7,000 bill costs their shop.
So this site does one thing. You enter an amount, pick the payment type, and get the MDR with the arithmetic shown and the source named.
How it works
- Every rate, threshold, cap and category comes from the official documents listed below.
- The calculation runs in your browser. No amount is sent anywhere, and there is no account, login or email gate.
- Amounts are held in whole paise and rounded half-up, so the figures are exact rather than floating-point approximations.
- The rules live in one file, and the calculator, the rules table and the worked examples all read from it, so they cannot drift apart.
- Where the official sources do not state a figure, the calculator says so rather than guessing.
Who runs it
UPIFees.com is run independently by its owner. It is not affiliated with NPCI, the Reserve Bank of India, the Ministry of Finance, the Government of India, any bank, or any UPI app, and it is not endorsed by any of them.
This is an informational tool built by reading the published rules carefully. It is not financial, legal, tax or accounting advice, and nobody here claims a professional qualification in those fields. For your own numbers, your acquiring bank or payment aggregator is the authority.
Corrections are welcome, particularly if something here does not match an official source. Write to contact@upifees.com.
Sources
The framework takes effect on 15 October 2026. Until then, UPI merchant payments carry no MDR at any amount. These are the documents behind every number on the site, both published on 15 September 2026:
- Department of Financial Services FAQ on MDR on Select UPI (P2M) Transactions (PDF, opens in a new tab)
- Ministry of Finance press release: UPI continues to remain free for peer to peer transactions and 96% of merchant transactions (opens in a new tab)
- NPCI copy of the MDR on Select UPI (P2M) Transactions FAQ (PDF, opens in a new tab)
When the framework changes, the rules file and this page are updated together, and the last-updated date at the bottom of every page moves with them.
What it will not become
There is no plan to add a page per transaction amount, a blog, or a library of near-identical calculators. Payments up to ₹2,000 are free, the rate above that is 0.4%, and one page that explains it properly beats fifty that repeat it.
Start with the UPI fee calculator, or read the disclaimer for the limits of these estimates.
